Appearance: Matt
Spreading Rate: 4 – 8 m²/l dependent on surface texture and porosit.
Solids: ± 60% by mass and ± 38% by volume.
Density: ± 1,58 kg/litre.
Recommended Dry Film Thickness: 1 coat at 40 µm minimum.
Viscosity: ± 110 Kµ.
Flash Point: Non-flammable.
Storage:
- Keep containers properly sealed.
- Store away from direct heat, sun and severe cold in a place with adequate ventilation.

Features
- Waterbased: Low odour, easy cleaning.
- Alkali resistance: Can be applied directly to new cement plaster.
- Excellent sealing: Prevents absorption of more expensive final coats by substrate.
- Economical: Good obliteration at low cost.
- 100% lead free and low VOC: Reduces the odour associated with painting indoors.
Intended Usages
- Direct application to sound interior cement plaster and unglazed brick as a primer. (Not recommended for scratch plaster).
- Correctly primed gypsum ceilings.
Application Details
- Mixing: Stir before use with a flat paddle to an even consistency. Stir occasionally during use.
- Method: Roller, brush or airless spray.
- Thinning: Not recommended, but tap water if required to maximum of 10%.
- Cleaning: Remove as much of the product as possible from the application equipment before cleaning with water.
Conditions:
- Temperature between 5°C and 40°C.
- Relative humidity of less than 85%, preferably between 10:00 and 16:00.
- Ideally apply when the temperature of the substrate is at least 2°C above dew point.
- If possible away from direct sunlight.
Drying time:
Touch dry – 30 minutes.
Note: Higher temperatures will accelerate the drying times (approximately halved for every 10°C increase), whilst lower temperatures will retard the drying time (approximately doubled for every 10°C decrease).
Recoating time:
4 hours at 23°C.
Requirements:
One coat.
Surface Preparations
Cement plaster:
- Direct, no primer required.
Gypsum ceiling boards:
- Prime with one coat Prominent Dampcure or Prominent Plaster Primer or Prominent Trade Plaster Primer.
Ceilings:
- Sand to matt finish, clean with ProGold General Purpose Cleaner/water mixture (1:10), rinse with running water and apply directly.
Powdery surfaces:
- Wire brush and/or high pressure water jet clean surface, apply one coat Prominent Trade Bonding Liquid.
Poor condition surfaces i.e. excessive peeling:
- Strip down and treat as new work.
Not recommended as final coat on other surfaces.
Limitations
- Not recommended as finishing coats due to poor stain resistance.
- Not to be used as a primer on rhinolite, fibre cement and parapet walls.
- Cannot be applied in cold and moist conditions.
- Product cannot accommodate excessive movement, i.e. hairline cracking or application onto flexible coatings like texture coats and waterproofing systems.
- Chalking takes place over time if exposed to UV rays.
- Not recommended for tinting.
- The low VOC compliance is applicable for batches manufactured from 1 September 2010 onwards.
- To ensure a consistent appearance ensure that batch numbers on all the containers are the same. Where the batch numbers differ, intermix before use.
Safety
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Ensure to maintain good ventilation during application and drying process.
- In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water or a recognised skin cleaner. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of contact with eyes rinse immediately with running water and seek medical advice.
- If product is ingested drink plenty of water. Do not induce vomiting at any time. Seek medical advice.
- Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for detailed information about the product and transportation and classification criteria. MSDS is available on www.prominentpaints.co.za or from Prominent Customer Service Department.
- To avoid any risk of spillage, always transport in a secure upright position.
- If the surface to be painted is asbestos then the preparation, cleaning and/or removal of broken asbestos sheeting needs to be done in compliance to the Asbestos Regulations, 2001 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1993. (ACT NO 85 of 1993). Contact Prominent Technical Department on 0861 776 646 or 011 389 4746 if a copy of the Asbestos Regulations is required.
